Smart Home Heating and Tiling: Seamless Integration for Modern Bathrooms
May 23, 2025If you’re planning bathroom renovations or any work involving waterproofing, you may come across a request for a PS3 producer statement. In this post, we explain what it is, when it is required, and how it fits into the council signoff process for your tiling project.
What Is a PS3 Producer Statement?
A PS3 (Producer Statement Construction) is a formal document signed by a qualified tradesperson confirming that a specific part of the building work, such as waterproofing, has been completed according to the required building standards.
It provides evidence to your local council that the work meets the New Zealand Building Code, particularly clauses like E3 Internal Moisture, which relates to waterproofing in wet areas such as bathrooms and laundries.
When Do You Need a PS3?
A PS3 is typically needed when:
-
Your bathroom renovation includes waterproofing that is part of a building consent
-
Council inspections are required before issuing a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC), which confirms that the completed work meets the approved consent and building code
-
The project involves multiple licensed trades, such as builders or plumbers, each responsible for certifying their own work
The PS3 confirms that the waterproofing system was applied correctly using the appropriate primers, membranes, tapes, and curing methods. Without it, your inspection could fail and the council may not issue final approval.
Who Can Issue a PS3?
Only a qualified and approved installer of the specific waterproofing system can issue a PS3. This means:
-
The person must be trained or certified by the membrane manufacturer
-
The system used must be accepted by the local council, such as Ardex or Mapei
-
All work must follow the correct detailing process, including sealing corners, joins, and penetrations
At Ray Tiling, we are certified to install approved waterproofing systems and can provide PS3 documentation when needed. This helps ensure your job stays compliant and avoids costly delays or rework.
How to Avoid Compliance Issues
If your renovation includes waterproofing:
-
Confirm early whether the work is part of a consented project
-
Ask your tiler or builder if they can issue a PS3
-
Make sure the products used are suitable for council approval
We regularly work with project managers and building inspectors to make sure everything is completed to code and supported with the right documentation.
